Mental health in the UK is grossly underfunded, with too many people receiving no help at all. Each year one in four UK residents experience a mental health problem, from mild depression right through to a more serious mental health condition.

These mental health problems often lead to hundreds of thousands of lives being put on hold or ruined, with thousands of tragic and unnecessary deaths. With the right support and treatment, mental illness doesn’t have to be a barrier to a fulfilling life.

Donating to a charity “Giving is not just about making a donation …its about making a difference”

Donating to the causes you care about not only benefits the charities themselves, it can be deeply rewarding too. Millions of people give to charity on a regular basis to support causes they believe in, as well as for the positive effect it has on their own lives.

The knowledge that you’re helping others is hugely empowering and, in turn, can make you feel happier and more fulfilled. Research has identified a link between making charity donations and increased activity in the area of the brain that registers pleasure – proving that as the old adage goes, it really is far better to give than to receive.

Having the power to improve the lives of others is, a privilege, and one that comes with its own sense of obligation. Acting on these powerful feelings of responsibility is a great way to reinforce our own personal values and feel like we’re living in a way that is true to our own ethical beliefs.

Why charity is important for everyone?

To help the vulnerable and make the world a better place for everyone, we all need to play our part in whatever way we can. That could be through volunteering your time or skills for a cause you care about, or even something as simple as being kind to strangers you meet in your day-to-day life. You can also help make a difference by donating what you can or what you do not need to charity.

While we like to believe we can make a difference on our own, sometimes we can do more together. The way charities are structured lets them use money raised to directly help people who need it on a larger scale than we can as individuals.
